Setting up a small home office
A tablet, a good notebook and a few habits go a long way. How to set up a corner of your home for focused work without a big budget.
You do not need a spare room to work well from home. A consistent corner, decent light and a couple of tools that stay put are enough.
Pick one surface and keep it
The biggest productivity gain is not moving your setup every day. Even a 60 cm desk works if it is always ready.
Screen at eye level
Prop a tablet on a stand at eye height for video calls and reference material, and keep the laptop or notebook lower for typing and writing. Your neck will thank you by Friday.
Write things down
A dotted A5 notebook is still the fastest way to plan a day. Write three things that must happen, then start the first one.
Light and sound
- Sit facing a window, not with it behind you, so your face is lit on calls.
- Noise-cancelling headphones make a shared flat feel like an office.
- Take a five-minute walk every hour — set a timer.
